Empire season 4 episode 8 preview: Diana DuBois’ master plan

On Empire season 4 episode 8 (airing on Fox December 6) there’s a reasonably good chance that quite a bit more will become clear — that’s especially true for Diana DuBois. Is there a better villain for this show than Diana? We’re not sure that there is. She’s highly intelligent, incredibly wealthy, and influential like almost nobody else in the city. When you think about it, we’re not sure that there is a more dangerous combination to take down the Lyon family. You have to be someone with the resources to combat them and then also the devious mind to manipulate the heck out of a given situation. She’s hustled in her own way for a long time — it may be a different sort of hustle than what Cookie and company have done, but it’s equally effective.

Cookie and Lucious take matters into their own hands as they watch Diana DuBois’ master scheme unfold. Meanwhile, Andre begins to spiral out of control, wondering what she could have in store for him. Also, Jamal’s sobriety is put to the test and Shine gives Hakeem advice on how to maintain a balance between his work and personal life in the all-new “Cupid Painted Blind” episode of EMPIRE airing Wednesday, Dec. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Aside from the Diana storyline the one that feels the most intriguing to us (at least right now), is seeing if Jamal can rise above some of his recent addictions and stay afloat in a society where it’s very hard to do that. We have so many stories on Empire of characters falling and hitting rock bottom, so with that it’d be nice to see some more stories of characters succeeding, finding a way to maintain their lives, and seeing conflict come at them in other forms.

Meanwhile, for Hakeem we just don’t see how he’s going to be able to balance work and his personal life given that he’s barely been able to make life or work stable on the series to date. Trying to manage both feels almost impossible dream for him.
