Saturday Night Live books Kevin Hart, James Franco for December hosts

Kevin Hart

As Saturday Night Live season 43 closes the door on the calendar year, you’re going to see three more episodes — and CarterMatt just so happen to know the hosts for all of them.

It was already reported that host Saoirse Ronan and musical guest U2 would be at the heart of the December 2 show. Now, we’ve had a chance to learn that James Franco and Grammy-nominated SZA will be fronting the December 9 installment. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart will be hosting the December 16 show alongside musical guest Foo Fighters.

The final episode of Saturday Night Live of the year is especially important — Over time we’ve seen some really special stuff celebrating the holiday season. It’s also one of the few episodes in which the musical guest is almost as important as the host. Having the Foo Fighters present for this episode is important. They recognize the value of the moment more so than promoting some individual album and we wouldn’t be surprised to see them belt out some holiday classics.

As for the hosts, SNL is going with a pair of familiar faces. Franco is certainly as offbeat a celebrity as you’re going to find, but we do think that his energy works well for a show like this and he’s game to take on just about anything and everything that comes his way. Meanwhile, Hart will bring a lot of star power to the final show of the year and continue the trend of SNL bringing on board top-notch comedians during season 43. So far we’ve had appearances from the likes of Tiffany Haddish, Kumail Nanjiani, and Larry David — the latter’s not a traditional comedian per se, but he has some of the same roots. Hart has Jumanji coming out, which is probably why now is the right time for him to return to the show as a host.

All in all, doesn’t this look like a fantastic next month for this show? We’re excited to dive in and see more of what each one of these people bring to the table.
