Is a She’s Gotta Have It season 2 possible at Netflix?
Let’s start here by focusing on what we’ve got at the moment. She’s Gotta Have It season 1 premiered on Netflix Thanksgiving Day, and it’s a chance for Spike Lee’s original movie from three decades ago to be expanded upon with new perspectives and new themes. We do think that the soul of the original is going to be intact. The themes and discussions that the original product had can still be worked on and moved into today’s world.
The question related to a second season starts with whether or not there is more story to tell — and nobody seems to be altogether interested in ruling that out. Unlike Godless — which also premiered earlier this week — there is no guarantee that this is a limited series. Depending on how it performs we do think that there’s a chance that there could be more of this show. The premiere date of She’s Gotta Have It is probably both a blessing and a curse. The good thing about it is that you’re getting a chance to watch the show at a time when there’s not a whole lot else out there in terms of new programming — therefore, you should be able to just kick back and enjoy this show without having to worry about missing anything in prime-time! On the flip side though, you do have to be concerned over whether or not viewers are just going to be unaware that it’s out there. Some people may not be in a position where Netflix is readily available. Therefore, they may come back on Monday after the US holiday and just focus on watching the rest of The Punisher, Godless or checking out some of the other scripted programming that’s out there.
There is no timetable as to when a She’s Gotta Have It season 2 is going to be announced — hopefully, we will have a little bit more news on the subject in the future.
