Kerry Washington directing Scandal season 7 episode 10
In a post on her official Twitter page Washington herself confirmed that she was acting and directing at the same time. While this photo and the caption may at first be innocuous, it is actually important to note that Olivia Pope somehow is going to have some sort of role in this episode. There are many occasions in which an actor directs an episode and as a result of that, opts to have a pretty minimized role. Wearing multiple hats in entertainment has been attempted by many, but being behind the camera and in front of it at the same time is a difficult task that not many can successfully accomplish.
It surprised us to see that Scandal season 7 episode 10 marks Washington’s directorial debut, largely because she’s been so accomplished in many other things that we felt like she probably had already done this at some point in her past! That’s not actually the case, but we’re thrilled that she has the role now and CarterMatt is psyched to see what she ends up bringing to Scandal. It’s hard sometimes to find your own voice as a TV director but we hope we’ll get to have some scenic shots and some really dynamic, interesting Olivia scenes. Kerry cares about this character a lot and has a deep understanding as to how to make the character as dynamic as possible. We don’t necessarily think that this episode could make you want to root for Olivia more, largely because that’s been a challenge this season already, but it’ll be entertaining.
Given that this is the final season of Scandal, it was important that Washington directed this season. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to see how she does in the director’s chair. It’s always beneficial for actors to get their first directing gig on a show they’re already a part of, mostly because they know it so well and could shadow some other directors before jumping into the hot seat.
