When should Amazon begin Absentia season 1 promotional campaign?
Now of course comes the downside: We do still have to wait a little while in order to see it. Not only that, but we have to wait a little while in order to start getting some promotional material for it too.
For the time being, it makes sense for Amazon to press pause on whatever their promotional plans are for one primary reason: The holiday season. Thanksgiving is happening this week, and that’s followed immediately by Amazon’s biggest shopping week of the year. While we would love to see more promotion for Absentia out there on Amazon, that doesn’t mean that it is the best move for them to shy away from promoting the million or so other things that are going on. If you don’t see any ads for the next week or two — or really any buzz about the show or an official US trailer — don’t take this as a slight against the show or that the streamer has little interest in pushing their property. It’s more about Amazon just being aware of their own needs.
Our feeling is that come the middle of next month, more official information should be out there including a US premiere date — with the show already finished in some territories and with it finishing elsewhere over the next few weeks, what’s the motivation in keeping it off the air past January or February? By the time we get closer to the end of the year information for many US viewers should start to come in.
Obviously, CarterMatt has come to know a great bit about Absentia and its cast and crew from covering it closely for months. For the average viewer though, this could end up becoming a hidden gem and a show that they did not know much about that ends up being one of their favorites. These are the people who are going to be very excited once they start to see a promotional campaign and learn just what the show is. We’re definitely excited to see a little bit more of what some reactions from casual viewers is going to be.
The biggest mystery we have
Why Showcase up in Canada hasn’t announced their own broadcast dates for Absentia season 1 just yet? For the longest time our assumption was just that they were waiting for America to make their move. Yet, with Amazon being a provider that often specializes in binge-watching, there’s no reason for Showcase to follow its lead here in the US!
