SWAT episode 5 preview: Mayor Eric Garcetti to appear

SWAT episode 5

SWAT episode 5 is coming onto CBS next week, and it will feature a familiar face for many in Los Angeles. Mayor Eric Garcetti is going to make a cameo appearance in the hour — he won’t actually be playing the Mayor, which is a little different than his cameo on Major Crimes.

Instead, the SWAT episode 5 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below gives you a pretty good indication as to who he is going to be playing, and also what the story for Hondo and everyone else is going to be:

“Imposters” – When a series of home invasions are committed by SWAT imposters in an upscale neighborhood, Hondo and the team suspect the burglarized families are all hiding something. Also, when Deacon and Luca are assigned to protect a visiting professional hockey player who is receiving death threats, his penchant for trouble becomes a complication, on S.W.A.T., Thursday, Nov. 30 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti makes a cameo as a sports agent. Retired National Hockey League player John Scott guest stars as Bobby, a professional hockey player under SWAT protection.

Beyond the Garcetti appearance, we like the fact that SWAT is bringing forward a story that involves hockey in some way — probably just because of the fact that we don’t actually see hockey mentioned all that much these days. Would you even know that the NHL is even happening at the moment? It’s barely being mentioned even in some sports circles outside of Canada.

The other thing to be excited about is simply the fact that SWAT episode 5 is going to be airing on a day that is not a holiday. We don’t love the fact that SWAT decided to air a new episode of the show on Thanksgiving, even if we understand why now that it’s been granted a full 20-episode season. This is a show that really needs to get some episodes on the air this month — it started late because of the NFL, and the show doesn’t want to air over the Christmas holiday season. With that, something had to give and we hope that the ratings are not impacted because of it.
