The Punisher season 2 still in distant future, if it happens
It seems from behind the scenes on the show that the big priority, at least for the time being, is continuing to make the first season a success. While it is technically out there and available on Netflix at the moment, that does not necessarily mean that it’s reached its full potential just yet. Netflix has to play the long game when it comes to publicity, knowing that viewers watch these shows at their own pace. It would not be a shock to us if there are some viewers out there who are waiting to check out The Punisher until they are at the Thanksgiving break. After all, if they do this they will be able to check out the full series over a stretch of time when there really isn’t all that much else going on.
In speaking on the subject of a possible season 2, executive producer Steve Lightfoot (who we still fondly remember from working on Hannibal) made it clear to The Hollywood Reporter recently that he hasn’t thought too much ahead. Yet, there are a couple of villains that he would like to explore:
“I haven’t even thought about season two … but one of the villains I love is Barracuda [from Garth Ennis’ Punisher MAX series]. I think he’s great fun. I also really like O’Brien [also introduced in Ennis’ Punisher MAX run]. I thought she was always really cool. Certainly those two jump out at me initially, but there are so many great characters there. It’s a very fun sandbox to play in.”
There is more or less zero reason to believe that The Punisher will end after one season on the air given that none of the other series within the whole Marvel – Netflix universe have. This is mostly a matter of patience and a matter of time, but the easiest assumption to make at present is that the series will return. Once more news is revealed, we’ll be happy to report it.
