The Good Doctor spoilers: Is someone set to leave the hospital?
According to a report from TVLine, one of the show’s doctors is going to be departing the ABC series in the near future, potentially in a controversial way. Is this exit meant to be permanent? That’s not necessarily a guarantee. What the exit is going to do is set the stage for a big storyline around the middle of the season and it’ll be one that should leave many people excited about the future of the show.
If the exit is permanent… – Think of this as a very cool move for the show, meaning it’s not afraid to take big risks in changing the core group of characters early on. There are times when shows shake things up as a means of reinvigorating the story and giving people something else to be exciting about, but it doesn’t necessarily happen this early in the run! A good example of a move like this happening during a first season was MacGyver moving out Thornton and bringing in Matty Webber which has given this show a much needed punch.
If the exit is not permanent – This could be a good way of the producers gauging precisely how passionate some of their fans are about specific characters within the cast. For example, is there anyone on The Good Doctor who could depart and cause people to freak out beyond Shaun Murphy? We would get a chance to find this out. So long as the show doesn’t kill anyone off then there’s always going to be a way to bring someone back to the show down the road.
The goal with any network show is that you want to get people talking about you. Just based on some of these details alone, it definitely seems as though The Good Doctor is going to achieve that. They’ve already done a great job making a name for themselves in the early going; based on the ratings alone they are the top-rated new drama of the year! Depending on how Young Sheldon fares the rest of the season it could end up taking the title of #1 drama overall.
