Veep season 7 filming on hiatus for Julia Louis-Dreyfus cancer treatment
Speaking to Julie Mason in a new interview on SiriusXM, executive producer Frank Rich confirmed (via Deadline) that the show is currently on hiatus so that Louis-Dreyfus can recover, with the love and support of the cast and crew every step of the way:
We’re obviously postponing production of the show — we were supposed to have started now — while she’s in treatment … But the expectation is that we will shoot again. We have one more season we’re doing, which we’re incredibly excited about.”
Rich added that the actress is still taking part in regular table reads with the rest of the cast and she is excited to continue being a part of the show. Over the past several weeks the cast has been making inspirational videos for her (and you can see one of them below) and that just serves as a greater reminder of the supportive, friendly atmosphere that exists here for many of the cast and crew. Louis-Dreyfus is one of the most honored actresses in television history, and we do think a big part of that comes from her ability to uplift and encourage others. If you are a delight to work with, that makes it all the easier to support you when you need a little bit of extra love.
In the end, there really isn’t any hurry here when it comes to the future of Veep. Whenever Julia is through her treatment and on the other side, the cast and crew can reunite and finish the story of Selina Meyer. Based on the ending to season 6, it does feel as though the writers are going to bring this whole journey full-circle. Selina is running for President (again), and given her history and her past antics we have a feeling it may very well end in disaster. Even if she gets elected, the odds are high that it’s still going to be a disaster just because this is Selina Meyer we are talking about! She courts hot messes like nobody else.
