The Flash season 4 episode 7 preview: The Thinker’s backstory; expect flashbacks

The Flash season 4 episode 7 is entitled “Therefore I Am,” which to us mostly just translates to mean “a big episode for The Thinker.” You don’t reference a Rene Decartes quote for any other reason! For much of the season this is a character who has lurked around in the shadows; here, he will emerge (hopefully on that crazy floating chair) and we’re going to start to understand more in terms of how this character first came to be.

The synopsis CarterMatt has for you below indicates that you’ll be seeing some flashbacks for the man otherwise known as Clifford DeVoe. Beyond that, you’re also going to check out a meeting between him and Barry:

BARRY MEETS DEVOE – Barry (Grant Gustin) comes face to face with DeVoe (guest star Neil Sandilands). DeVoe’s past is revealed through flashbacks. Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) puts the final touches on the wedding, which is a week away. David McWhirter directed the episode written by Eric Wallace & Thomas Pound (#407). Original airdate 11/21/2017.

For those who have not heard as of yet, The Flash season 4 episode 7 is the last one before the big WestAllen wedding, which is going to take place during the upcoming Crisis on Earth-X crossover event airing in two week’s time. This is an exciting, dramatic four-parter that will have some romance, but will also feature some of the characters forced to take on evil versions of themselves.

As for The Thinker, don’t expect him to be a part of the crossover. You’re going to get to know this character in flashbacks next week, and then we imagine that he is going to come back in the final episodes of 2017 just because that is the way that The Flash often works. Typically by the mid-season finale the main villain of the season starts to make their presence felt; for now, we don’t even know for certain what the motivations of The Thinker are other than that he clearly has some long-term plans for Barry Allen.
