Bull season 2 episode 8 is different than most other installments of the CBS series, and there is one simple reason for that: Archie Panjabi. The former The Good Wife star is going to be appearing in this episode as Arti Cander, and the video below is all of the proof you need to know one thing about her: She is a woman who means business.
So why does she enter the picture in “The Devil, the Detail” at all? It has to do with a new case involving a man’s death, one that is being blamed on a pharmaceutical company. Cander introduces herself to Bull and the best way to describe their conversation is a game of mental chicken. They are both carefully judging the other, doing everything in their power in order to figure out just how the other person thinks about not only the case, but also each other. It’s a fun scene — Arti is smart and calculating, and she knows how to push Bull’s buttons. One of the things that he struggles with the most is being told that he cannot do something, and that’s something that Arti throws at him when she tells him that he misread her intention for the meeting. She is not looking to settle the case on behalf of the pharmaceutical firm; this meeting was just to size him up.
Not only that, but Arti couldn’t settle the case even if she wanted to for one simple reason: She is not an actual attorney. Like Bull, she is a trial scientist and reveals that at the end of the sneak peek. This catches him totally off-guard, and we like that given that it adds that extra layer of drama to the scene. Bull will be challenged substantially by Arti over this episode since she is every bit as smart as him, and she also operates under a different method that he cannot quite wrap his head around. If you were hoping for Dr. Bull to have a worthy adversary, Arti could be it.
After watching this episode, one of the questions you may be wondering is when we’re going to have a chance to see Panjabi again. Hopefully, she ends up becoming similar to Diana Lindsay (Jill Flint) and is someone who turns up on a number of different occasions over time. As for the whole possible love interest angle, we’d actually prefer her to not be one here just because that angle has already been played up on the show. It’s better to mix things up and keep them fresh.
