Elementary season 6 premiere date wait continues; why?

Want to know the Elementary season 6 premiere date on CBS? You are certainly not alone in that in the slightest. This is a show that has always been on the air right about now since the very start of its run, and now you’re waiting more than likely until the spring in order to see more of it.

What we do know about the show and its current trajectory is this: Production is currently underway on the 13-episode season and most inclinations have it starting in March. If the show is airing on Sundays again this year, this certainly does make the most sense. Remember that through the first two months of the year Sunday nights are a complete dumpster fire — you’ve got the Super Bowl, NFL Playoffs, Golden Globes, the Grammys, and the Oscars in a relatively short span of time and it is super-hard to find a way to cram anything else in there. These two months are not the time to start airing new programming and it really doesn’t matter if you’re talking about either broadcast or cable. It’s really a bad idea all around.

So when the show does come back, the challenge will be rather clear: Finding a way to deliver thirteen episodes in roughly two and a half months. CBS probably hasn’t announced a premiere date yet just because they’re trying to A) figure out the right spot for the show and B) they don’t want to do it so early that everyone forgets about the show later. It may not be until early 2018 that a start date is confirmed.

One of the other challenges Elementary faces right now is a rather simple one: Trying to find the perfect show for it to replace when there is no clear dud at the moment on the CBS schedule in terms of a scripted drama. Wisdom of the Crowd, SEAL Team, and SWAT are the only three new dramas on the schedule, and one of them in SEAL Team already has a full-season order. If we had to guess, we’d say that Wisdom of the Crowd is the one that gets left behind, NCIS: Los Angeles is pushed upward to its old 8:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot, and Elementary takes its old spot in March … but time will tell since there are many weeks of ratings to be calculated.

What we hope Elementary is doing at the moment is working to treat the upcoming episodes like a final season since you don’t quite know what’s going to happen. Hopefully, this means getting back Natalie Dormer, who expressed an interest in returning earlier this summer.
