Outlander season 3 episode 10 preview: Claire’s mission; Jamie’s negotiation
If there is some good news facing Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s characters it’s this: At least this time they are not separated by years! Instead, they are separated this time by the ocean. All things considered, that’s really not so bad! For most people, it’d probably be a cause for panic — Jamie and Claire have just been through so much over the course of their lives that they know how to deal with the trials and tribulations of separation.
Claire is currently captured by Captain Leonard and his ship — they don’t want to hurt her, but they do want to use her. Almost the entire British ship is struggling with an outbreak and they need the help of a doctor. She is apparently the best option they have, and Claire really has no choice but to help treat some of the men aboard. If she does not, it could be her own life on the line. She also knows that if she can figure this out she can presumably reunite with Jamie on the other side.
Where things get a little bit more complicated is back on Captain Raines’ ship, where Jamie learns that he may have had something to do with Claire being over there. You get a small sense of that in the promo below; meanwhile, the Outlander season 3 episode 10 synopsis CarterMatt has for you gives you a little more insight as to what you can expect to see:
“Claire races to discover the source of an epidemic aboard a disease-stricken ship before hundreds of sailors die. And as Jamie locks horns with Captain Raines, Fergus finds himself torn between loyalty and love.”
The dilemma here for Fergus is a pretty interesting one given that he can help to free Jamie after Raines basically locks him up — that’s what happens when you challenge authority and decision-making — or he can leave him down there and stay loyal to the rest of the crew. The dilemma that comes along with this is that if he does help Jamie, he has a chance to earn his approval regarding Marsali — we know that they technically married per custom before the trip, but clearly Jamie is not altogether interested in honoring that ceremony. He still considers Fergus unmarried and needing to earn his blessing.
