Do Valor season 2 renewal odds dim after latest CW decision?

Valor canceled

Is Valor going to be canceled on The CW? Not exactly, but we’d say that for the time being that the military drama’s odds of coming back aren’t looking that great.

Today, the network opted to not give the series a nine more episodes, meaning that the thirteenth episode of the season will serve as the season finale. Could it also be the series finale? Well, there are many reasons to be nervous.

For one, Valor is the lowest-rated series in the 18-49 demographic on any of the five major US broadcast networks to air from Monday through Thursday. The only show on The CW averaging a lower demo rating right now is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and that’s a show that airs on Friday nights. It’s also not in as much danger because of its critical acclaim and lower expectations.

Valor also airs on a network that is rather stockpiled when it comes to original programming and there are some other shows that they need to get on the air this year still. Think in terms of Black Lightning, iZombie, and The 100. Some of these shows will be back for another season, and then from there we’ve got some other shows that The CW will develop for next season. There are only so many series that could be coming back for another season, so there should be some cause for concern among some Valor fans that the show doesn’t end up coming back.

When will a firm decision be made?

Think in terms of May, when the network holds their upfront presentation. Even if the show is canceled though, there is a little bit of a silver lining here. If nothing else, the show will get a chance to have a complete 13-episode arc that airs. We’re glad that this is happening as opposed the show just getting pulled. That’s one of the worst things for any TV fan, let alone for a network. It’s not good to have to establish that sort of reputation as a network that cancels shows and then doesn’t air the remaining episodes.
