Queen Sugar season 3 premiere date speculation: When could OWN series return?
Over the past year, this series (created by Ava DuVernay) has shown itself to be an incredible driving force for OWN both in terms of its ratings and also its social-media buzz. It routinely trends near the top of Twitter anytime it comes on the air — the only shame is that there aren’t more episodes in a season! This isn’t just a procedural that can have a ton of episodes, so developing a story as good as this takes some time.
As of right now, the Queen Sugar season 3 premiere date is charting to be somewhere in the late summer/early fall of 2018. The new season is going into production early next year, and with a new showrunner in Kat Candler, who was a producing director for the second season of the show. She is stepping in for Monica Macer, who was the showrunner for the second season of the show. Candler will work closely with DuVernay on developing the series from here on out.
In a statement (per Deadline), DuVernay had the following to pass along when it comes to Candler stepping into this role alongside the promotion of DeMane Davis, (who directed some season 2 episodes):
“Kat has an incredible eye and brings her beautifully nuanced artistry to our vision for the series. Paul has been paramount to the growth and blossoming of the series since our very first season. And DeMane Davis is a vibrant leader on set who I’m pleased to have join us in a new producerial role … I’m truly thrilled to work alongside these dynamic storytellers as we continue our Queen Sugar journey together.”
Look for a few more announcements to come on a Queen Sugar season 3 premiere date once we get into the summer of next year — OWN will not want you to forget about the show during the hiatus, but they probably won’t share a whole lot in the way of news until there is actual news to share.
