Blindspot season 3, Blue Bloods season 8 ratings steady; The Exorcist rises

Blue Bloods season 8

Did the Blindspot season 3 ratings get better or worse following the recent premiere episode? Based on the most-recent numbers it appears that they stayed the same.

Friday night’s new episode ended up generating a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is the same rating that the Jaimie Alexander – Sullivan Stapleton series drew the week prior. This is probably both good and bad news. CarterMatt is not 100% confident at the moment that this is going to be enough in order to keep the show on the air for another season, even though things could be much worse. After all, it could be a show like Once Upon a Time that is generating a 0.5 rating for the second straight week. The more we see that number, the more confident that we are that ABC is going to issue out some sort of final-season announcement sooner rather than later.

In general, the Friday ratings are more of an indicator than ever before that there are some networks out there who really bungled the decision to bank on scripted programming performing well on this night. There just aren’t a whole lot of available viewers on Friday, and the proof of that is in the fact that Dateline won the night with a 1.0 rating. Seriously. Dateline. Hawaii Five-0 dropped down to a 0.9 rating, tying with Blue Bloods as one of the best scripted programs on the night.

For those wondering, Inhumans stayed around 0.5, and the more that we look at Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin getting a 0.2 rating the clearer it is to us that these are two shows are mostly on the air so that The CW can have something that constitutes a ratings contender.

Is there any good news?

We suppose that if you consider The Exorcist rising up to a 0.5 rating that would be some good news. This is a show that we’re happy to have back, especially since we love John Cho and it’s exciting to see him getting more of a vehicle for himself. The problem there is just that with the ratings down year to year (by a pretty wide margin) it’s hard to feel altogether confident that there will be a season 3 of the series. Remember that (in some ways), getting a season 2 was a surprise because it was considered to be very much on the bubble.
