The Tonight Show taping canceled due to Jimmy Fallon family emergency

Tonight Show -

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is going to be entering its weekend hiatus a day earlier than expected.

According to a report coming in from Deadline, the NBC show is going to be airing an unscheduled repeat tonight due to health issues related to the host’s mother. No other details were announced, but it remains a difficult year for late-night hosts facing family matters. Earlier this week, Jimmy Kimmel chose to take a little bit of time off in order to be with his son Billy, who came down with a cold prior to undergoing heart surgery.

ABC had enough time in order to come up with some sort of contingency plan and as a result of that, there are a series of guest-hosts coming in and taking Kimmel’s place on his late-night show. For Fallon, taking the night off is the easier option since it’s only one night. It is also such short notice in this instance that there is not all that much NBC could do if they really wanted to in terms of finding someone to come in as a replacement at the last minute.

This episode of The Tonight Show was scheduled with guests Saoirse Ronan, NFL player Julian Edelman and music producer Clive Davis, plus also a performance by Wiz Khalifa featuring Ty Dolla $ign

Fallon himself has yet to publicly address the absence from the show, but will likely do that when he does return to work. The familial nature that comes with being on a program like The Tonight Show is not lost on him. He is acutely aware that those who choose to tune in to his show do so as a part of their routine, and not having him for a night may cause them to feel as though something is off.

Hopefully everything will get better Fallon’s world, and we will see him back on the show before long. Our thoughts go out to his family and everyone else during what has to be a difficult time for them. (Photo: NBC.)
