Outlander season 3 episode 8 preview: The mystery of Jamie’s other wife

Outlander season 3 episode 8 will air on Starz in seven days’ time, and the story for Jamie and Claire will be fundamentally different from anything in tonight’s “Creme de Menthe.” After all, the setting is shifting over from Edinburgh over to Lallybroch. We’re heading back home for Jamie! We just wish that it was a journey home without so many complications.

At the end of “Creme de Menthe” one of the biggest reveals of the season came to pass: Jamie has another wife. Not only that, but he wasn’t telling Claire about her. He chose to keep it a secret for the time being, and his reasoning for that still remains to be seen. Maybe he just wanted to have a happy reunion? We do think that his love for Claire came back immediately; him being married doesn’t mean that he is in love with this other wife. After all, remember that Claire and Frank were married and she was only in love with him prior to her going through the stones. Their relationship changed the moment that she came back at the end of season 2.

In the Outlander season 3 episode 8 synopsis you can see some more insight on what’s ahead — even if there is not an abundance of details:

“Claire returns to Lallybroch with Jamie, where she does not receive quite the reception she was expecting. Unbeknownst to her, Jamie’s made some choices in their time apart which come back to haunt them with a vengeance.”

Unfortunately, the promo below does not tell you the identity of Jamie’s other wife. Can you find that information out from the books? Absolutely, but CarterMatt will keep it a secret for now in order to preserve the element of surprise for non-book readers.

Judging from the way the promo plays out one thing is a THOUSAND percent clear: Claire knows Jamie’s secret. There’s no other reason why she would question whether or not the two should really be together anymore. Our feeling is this: She isn’t quite so angry about the fact that Jamie married someone else; instead, it’s the secretive way in which he kept it from her until he saw fit to reveal it. Nobody likes to be toyed with; regardless of whether or not this was his intention, Claire feels how she’s going to feel. Jamie cannot control that and shouldn’t want to. It’s Claire’s independence and passion that made him love her in the first place.

To make matters much worse for Claire, she learns quickly upon returning to Lallybroch that not everyone is altogether excited to see her — including Jenny.
