CBS moves Superior Donuts and Me, Myself, & I around

Superior Donuts

CBS has made a small, but interesting change when it comes to their fall schedule: Superior Donuts and Me, Myself & I are on the move.

Here is apparently what is going to happen. Starting on Monday, October 30, we are going to see the premiere of Superior Donuts in the 9:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot that was previously designated for Me, Myself & I. Why the change here? Well, it is really as simple as the fact that Me, Myself & I isn’t delivering the ratings that we or CBS probably expected. With a big star in Bobby Moynihan and a premise that feels somewhat like This Is Us in comedy form, we imagined that Me, Myself & I would perform a little bit better. It may just be suffering from the thing that some other CBS comedies have over time: Being a little bit experimental and outside the box. The vast majority of the time, the comedies that work the best on the network are those that are family-centric and feature characters and premises that are relatable. We do think that Me, Myself & I has that, but spreading it out over three different periods may make it feel like three different shows.

Do we think that this move is necessarily an indictment on the future of either one of these two shows? Not exactly, since we are still really early along in the season. With that being said, though, Me, Myself & I probably needs to recover quickly if they want CBS to decide to give it more episodes. New shows often don’t recover the audience that they have lost, and we’re getting close to the time when networks make decisions on their pickups for down the road. Its biggest struggle now is probably just going to be the fact that it, like many other CBS shows, will be losing The Big Bang Theory on Monday night. As a result of that, the safety net is by and large gone.

We’ll be sure to check back in on both of these shows next week when we post the latest edition of our Monday ratings piece.

What do you think about Superior Donuts and Me, Myself & I switching times, and do you think that there are still hope for both of these shows? Be sure to share now in the comments!
