Scorpion season 4 episode 5 review: Did Sylvester pass the Bar? Toby loses his pants
Despite whatever some of Walter O’Brien’s fellow tech nerds may think about him, over the course of this episode they probably realized one thing more so than any other: The needed him. Walter was the metaphorical straw that stirred the drink at the heart of tonight’s new episode, largely because he had to figure out a way in order to ensure that a deadly group of attackers didn’t kill anyone within the walls of the convention. This was one of the scariest hostage situations that we’ve seen the team be a part of, and what made this extremely entertaining was seeing how all of the different team members were involved in one way or another order to ensure that Walter, Paige, and everyone else emerged from the convention in one piece. Cabe had to show off some acting skills in a rather hilarious way (think a bad British accent and a green screen), and Sylvester had some interruptions right in the middle of him trying to take the Bar.
Also, Happy had to rob a bank — seriously. It was probably a good move for the show to not show that; by the time we came back from commercial she and Toby were already on the run from the cops. Also, Toby’s abilities to have children may be temporarily delayed by all of that hot coffee that got spilled in his lap.
Basically, Team Scorpion did everything that they could to help out the men holding Walter and company hostage, thinking that it would get them out in piece. Unfortunately they still found themselves facing a barrel of a gun. Who actually saved the day? Paige, who dropped down some confetti and balloons at the right time so that everyone could start to make their escape. Luckily, nobody died in there, but the assailants were still able to briefly get away … at least before Cabe and his classic car and soundtrack started to chase them down.
The aftermath
Toby and Happy decided to go a little easier on their baby plan, and while Walter didn’t get to re-join the tech crew because of history with him, he can still celebrate being a hero to them in this moment.
Unfortunately, Sylvester didn’t end up finishing the Bar — he was too busy saving the world — so that leaves him in a precarious position … until he found out he still somehow passed! Apparently he did just enough to get what he needed.
CarterMatt Verdict
While at first we thought that this was going to be a pretty run-of-the-mill Scorpion episode, we gotta say that “Sci Hard” was a hoot. This was one of the funnier episodes of the season and one of the most inspired ones to do. After all this was an episode that featured Cabe being British and Toby running around the street with no pants on.
