‘Shiptober: On NCIS season 15 and the odds for Gibbs, Jack Sloane
There are many interesting questions that can be pondered over at the minute following Tuesday’s debut for the character, and we do think that this is near the top of the list. Gibbs hasn’t had a romantic relationship on the show in a long time. Meanwhile, there is something that is innately curious about the Jack Sloane character in terms of her communication with him. There was a little bit of flirtation between the two characters, though we’re not sure that Gibbs would recognize it as that. Sloane was intent from the onset of their relationship that she figured out what kind of man she was. She thought that she had the upper hand over him with the little stunt that she pulled on him upon her arrival, but as she learned soon after that, she was actually the one being played in turn. Gibbs knew who she was the whole time.
Do we think that Gibbs is ready for a relationship at this point? There is some pretty strong evidence of it. Think about how long it’s been, but also think about everything that he’s gone through over time to get to where he is now. This is a man who seems to have a different lease on life than he once did — he’s a little happier to be alive and maybe a little more unburdened. Maybe now is the time that he starts to let go of some of the terrible things from his past and finds a good way forward.
If Jack Sloane is to be a new love interest for him, there are some reasons why it could work. Maria Bello’s character is an expert at reading people, and as a result of that she is going to understand perhaps better than anyone just what it means when it comes to bringing the best out of people. She can remind Gibbs of some of his strengths and, in turn, help him see past a few more of his flaws and what he struggles with. We don’t know a lot about her personally just yet, but judging from some of the scars that we saw on her back at the end of this past episode we do think that she has also been through a lot and could benefit from a character like Gibbs’ loyalty and the sense of care he shows for others.
