Outlander season 3 notes: A little more Caitriona Balfe news

Caitriona Balfe news

Before we get around to posting our Outlander review and much more for 3×06, why not share some Caitriona Balfe news? The series star has a great performance tonight and there’s going to more than likely be more where that comes from in the weeks ahead.

There are a couple of interesting things worth noting at the moment when it comes to Balfe, and the first one is this: If you want to get a new Q&A from her on Twitter, you really should go and support her latest Represent charity campaign! This benefits World Child Cancer, an organization that she passionately supports, and if there are 2,000 purchases made she is going to do the aforementioned Q&A. At the moment she is almost to 1,950, so there is just a little more to go before she hits that milestone!

After the events of “A. Malcolm” tonight, we certainly do think that Balfe is going to have a lot to talk about!

Rest assured that in the event that this happens, we’ll be here to share some of our thoughts about this while adding a little more insight along the way.

Balfe’s thoughts on Sandy

We do feel it’s interesting to share what Caitriona recently had to say on the subject of the character to Entertainment Weekly, given that this scene last week was an essential one in our eyes. While we don’t consider Sandy likable by any means, she’s necessary — getting insight on her from her vantage point is a reminder that we’re viewing the story through Claire’s lens and her actions impact other people. While you can argue that Sandy getting involved with a married man was a recipe for disaster in the first place, she also served as a reminder that Frank did want to move forward on some level after it was clear Claire was still in love with someone else.

Check out more of what Balfe had to say below:

“People have a tendency to jump on teams and take sides with things. But life is always much more complicated than that … Generally its circumstances that cause people to act in a certain way. Yes, Frank was cheating but that’s because he was in a loveless marriage and a marriage that had no intimacy. That was Claire’s choice. So rather than it being important for Claire to hear that, it was important for the story to tell how it had repercussions for everybody. It doesn’t just affect Claire or Jamie. It affects the marriage. It affects Brianna’s childhood, it affects this other woman’s life. Living with secrets from the Claire and Frank perspective has repercussions beyond the couple.”

It was important for not only Claire to hear Sandy out at the dedication, but we also needed to hear it, as well. It gives you more of a sense of the scope of that world in America — there wasn’t a lot of time to spend on it in the first five episodes so having this moment was important to wrap everything up.
