NCIS: New Orleans season 4 episode 4 review: Percy, Lasalle, and a ghost story

NCIS: New Orleans season 4 episode 4

NCIS: New Orleans season 4 episode 4, predictably, kicked things off with a murder. Yet, this was a murder different than most. A sailor named Jacob was found dead at a particularly-spooky site, one where a Confederate soldier supposedly died a good 150 years ago. This was a case that immediately sparked all sorts of questions regarding whether or not a ghost was involved.

Was the murder planned? It’s a good question, but one of the things that made this mystery so complicated was that Jacob never intended to be in town to begin with. he was only there in the aftermath to what happened to his grandmother, but something drew him to that haunted location. One of the only clues found along the way was a séance, which made the team wonder if it was real or an intentional way to throw the team off.

The more that the team investigated, the more it appeared as though the lead suspect was a pretty creepy guy in Otis, one who supposedly conned Jacob’s grandmother in order to get her mother — when Jacob found out about, he confronted him and murdered him. However, the suspect denied this and claimed that the grandmother came to him instead looking for answers. Then, after she passed on, he claims that she came back to him looking to pass along a message to Jacob.

Ultimately, what matters here — regardless of whether or not you believe Otis with his claims — is that there may have been some family secret that got Jacob killed. Did that family secret trace back here to Cornelius LaRue, the soldier from 150 years ago? Well, the team did figure out that in one way or another, Jacob was investigating what happened prior to his death.

The spooky investigation continues

The team continued to find links to Jacob and Cornelius, but found themselves in a situation where they also had to work with Otis the “medium,” who was one step ahead when it comes to information. There was a strong physical resemblance between Cornelius and Jacob and as the evidence unfolded, it was clear that the family secret was a big one: The Anderson family, the one at the center of the case, had blood ties to LaRue. There had to be a reason for that name change.

As it turns out, it may have had something to do with a business arrangement all the way back during the era of the Civil War. Cornelius may have helped to start a pharmacy, only to then be murdered in order to keep out of the profits. Jacob found out about it, and one group of ancestors set out to murder some of the others.

Your Percy / Lasalle update

It’s high time we got into this more, given that it has been a while since the story really touched on their dynamic. While they may have made the decision to go back to being friends, the two of them are having a hard time sticking to it.

The romance between the two was over, but there was a “City Mouse” moment that proved to be effective when she used the phrase to alert Lasalle that something was awry on the roof. He was essential in taking down the episode’s bad guy, and at the end of the day we hope that the two have a better working relationship than before.

The one amusing part of the episode

Gregorio is, clearly, afraid of ghosts. She also believes in psychics. For someone so serious isn’t this a big surprising? Sure, but it’s also funny since it proves that every tough person has their fears.

Ultimately, Tammy did visit Otis late in the episode to try to get some peace following what happened with her father.

Pride’s own paranoia

Over the course of the case Pride confided in Wade that he was still suffering from some serious bouts of paranoia, worrying as though someone was trying to split up the team.

CarterMatt Verdict

One of the best episodes of the season — incredibly creepy, and with a payoff that was literally over 100 years in the making. We don’t know how you don’t love an episode like this.
