Criminal Minds season 13 episode 5 photo: Derek Morgan’s back!
The new image above via ABC highlights Shemar Moore as Derek Morgan in the midst of his big return for “Lucky Strikes” on Wednesday, October 25. His return was kept under wraps for most of the fall until earlier this week, and as the synopsis below indicates, this is going to be an emotional episode for Garcia and his return comes around as a result of that.
“Lucky Strikes” – When Garcia experiences anxiety over a case that’s personal to her from her past, Morgan visits to lend emotional support, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Oct. 25 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Garcia and Morgan’s relationship was one of the most appealing things about the series to many over the years and we’re glad to see it back — even just for one episode. Morgan realizes how much this case is going to bring back flashbacks for his “baby girl.” Remember, “Lucky Strikes” is a sequel of sorts to the season 3 episode “Lucky,” one that featured Jamie Kennedy in the terrifying role of Floyd Feylinn Ferell. Kennedy will be back in this role for the episode, and judging from what happened to Penelope at the end of “Lucky” it makes sense that having him in the story again could cause some of those memories to come rushing back a little bit.
If you love Garcia, this should be a great episode for you — even if it does also make you nervous and/or anxious here and there. We’re not sure just how much screen time Moore is going to have given that he is busy filming his other gig in SWAT, but even just a small appearance from him here should be enough to make some people out there happy. We just remember happy that Shemar is cool enough that he would want to come back for this show — this is the second occasion in which we’ve had a chance to see him since he initially departed a year and a half ago — he also turned up in the season 12 finale and did his best to help further along the investigation into Mr. Scratch. Even when Derek is not with the BAU, he does still find a way to be helpful.
