Criminal Minds season 13 spoilers: Shemar Moore returning as Derek Morgan
According to TVLine Moore is poised to reprise his role as Derek Morgan on the upcoming October 25 episode entitled “Lucky Strikes,” the sequel to the season 3 episode “Lucky” that features the return of Jamie Kennedy in his nefarious serial-killer role. At the end of the season 3 episode Penelope Garcia was shot, and it’s with that in mind that Derek will be returning to lend her a helping hand. She is, after all, his “baby girl,” and he’ll do everything that he can in order to help her.
Speaking to the aforementioned site showrunner Erica Messer does her past to put this story within a certain degree of perspective:
“At the end of that case, back in Season 3, is when Garcia got shot, so she’s going to deal with a little reminder of that time in her life — and may or may not get a little pep talk from Morgan.”
Shemar Moore’s return comes just a few months after he reprised the role as Morgan for the season 12 finale; meanwhile, it also comes one week before the premiere of his new series SWAT airing on CBS Thursday nights. This move may be with a little bit of cross-promotion in mind, but we certainly don’t mind. Morgan is loved by so many fans (including all of us here at CarterMatt), and the more of him we get to see on this show the better off it will be. It’s nice that he is still getting the invitations to come back and that he is willing to take part. The big thing that holds him back from doing even more is that he clearly is very busy with another show. Luckily, the two shows at least film in the same city, so all he has to do is find a day off, get everyone’s approval, and then pop over to the BAU.
There is still a lot of story left to tell on Criminal Minds this season (it has really just begun!) so we will continue to keep close watch on everything here at CarterMatt in the event that another reprisal from Moore happens.
