Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off adds Medium alum Miguel Sandoval
Deadline reports that Miguel Sandoval, known for his work on Medium, is going to be one of the last remaining cast members. He is joining a crop that includes Jaina Lee Ortiz, Grey’s Anatomy star Jason George, The Flash actor Grey Damon, and many more. Sandoval is poised to play the fire captain on the show named Pruitt, and we figure that he will be the voice of wisdom and maybe the voice of reason for the firehouse at the center of the show. This is the sort of man who could prove to be show’s version of Richard Webber on Grey’s Anatomy proper — even though this spin-off show is not about medicine, we have a feeling that there are going to be some reflections to the flagship show when it comes to its structure and some of the roles many different people have on the team as a whole.
Grey’s Anatomy season 14 is currently airing on ABC, and here is in part how the firefighter spin-off is going to work: It’ll be launched in an upcoming episode as a bigger part of the show’s universe, and coming up in the new year there is going to be an opportunity to see more of it as a standalone series. ABC is banking hard on this, but it’s not altogether difficult to understand why when you think about the original show’s popularity. The one thing that we have to hope for is that the ratings are good from the get-go and that this show is going to do something that Chicago Fire does not. This is the real issue for the series — trying to find a way to make itself standout from the other firefighter series that are out there.
One thing we do know at the moment is that we like the cast and Sandoval could be a great addition to the mix. Hopefully, their chemistry will end up being as powerful as it looks like it could be on the surface.
