Scorpion season 4 episode 3 review: The deer rescue mission

Scorpion season 4 episode 3 review

What happened at the start of Scorpion season 4 episode 3? In the aftermath of Cabe’s arrest, let’s just say that he was in trouble. The only public defender that he was offered was a 24-year old kid, and he needed bail in order to escape.

So who was able to bail him out? Well, think in terms of the entire team! They all pooled their money in order to get Cabe out, and the problem there was that they were pretty darn short on cash. They needed to figure out a way to earn a quick buck, and this was why they were willing to take a case involving endangered species. They were hired to eliminate an organized crime unit that were taking such things as rhino horns and use them for profit. This was no easy task, given that it required them to match DNA of horns with DNA out in the field. This meant that Walter got a chance to take on the role of poop whisperer! Dude was probably a little too excited for his own good.

This is where things get interesting — in the midst of their mission the poachers stuck and attacked a pregnant deer. The big focuses here was the baby and trying to figure out a way in which said deer was going to be able to survive, which was not altogether easy thanks to the conditions.  How do you save someone who doesn’t have science on their side? Team Scorpion, of course! Also, the help of some well-executed plans. This story brought opportunities to see Walter and company get creative to simulate a mother’s womb — and it also brought us Paige so desperate to save the baby’s life that she threatened Walter with no sex if he didn’t find a way to help the baby.

The good news is that they were able to help the baby deer stay alive long enough to start transport. The bad news? There were a wide array of other problems that awaited the entire team once they were actually out on the road, including that one of the drivers just so happened to be secretly working with the poachers.

Cabe the babysitter

While the rest of the team was overseas working on the case, Cabe was both helping the team at home and serving as babysitter for Ralph. After all, Cabe had to give up his passport as a condition for his bail.

Cabe’s absence did in turn bring us one of the funniest subplots of the entire hour, where Walter did his best to compensate for Cabe by picking up some of his behaviors. As a result of that he started to act like Robert Patrick, complete with the sunglasses and the catch-phrases. This was all fun and games until Walter decided to punch the poacher/driver/traitor near the end of the episode.

Was the team able to escape?

Everyone was split into two different groups. Sylvester was with the deer’s mother and the client in one car while the rest of the team was in the other. This proved to be some of the best material for Sylvester this whole season as he did what he could in order to help bring the mother back to life. So often we’ve seen Sylvester doubt himself, but more often than not he pulls through in the end. The baby deer was okay, the mother was okay — really, everyone was okay other than Cabe, who still needs to figure out how he is going to be able to accept other people actually helping for a change.

CarterMatt Verdict

Overall, we would say that Scorpion season 4 episode 3 proved itself to be one of the funnier episodes of the show for a wide array of different reasons — but we also liked that the focus here was a little smaller and intimate. Not every episode has to be about finding a way to save mankind from extinction, and nor should they be. To be fair, Team Scorpion was still getting shot at a lot — this episode was life-or-death, but not in the same way as others over time.
