Ray Donovan season 5 episode 9 video: The Ray – Natalie secret is out
Over the past several weeks Ray has been growing closer to movie star Natalie James (Lili Simmons) — too close. This is why we’re about to see him in arguably the biggest pickle of his entire career. One of the reasons why Ray Donovan is the master-fixer that he is traces back to anonymity. Nobody who is in the media or the public sphere is supposed to know who he is. It allows for him to move freely within inner circles without being detected; basically, it allows for him to do his job.
Unfortunately for Ray, he’s slipped up in a big way with Natalie. A fictional version of TMZ within the show’s world (it’s equally obnoxious) is reporting on his relationship with her — and saying his name out loud — on the latest episode of their TV show. That’s terrible, and you can see Ray’s anger within his face and the way he carries himself. He says nothing to Natalie in the aftermath of the story playing out; instead, he just grabs his things and leaves. He’s going to have to figure this out, and it could be difficult since there’s no way to undo what has already been done. Even if everyone involved issues denials and retractions twelve ways to Sunday, his name is still out there.
For Ray, this is no doubt terrible and it could be the second big life-changing news for him in the past year or so alongside the death of Abby. It’s not on that level, but it could alter the way he does business forever. For us as a viewer, meanwhile, we definitely feel like this is the best possible reveal for this show at this time. Anytime you are in the fifth season you always want to find a way to get people talking, and this change is a big thing to drive the series and the story entering the home stretch. What’s Ray going to do now? It’s an effective tease for the final episodes, and it gets us excited to write more articles at CarterMatt in the weeks to come.
