Doctor Who spoilers: Peter Capaldi hypes up Jodie Whittaker arrival scene

regeneration process

The Doctor Who Christmas Special for the year has at this point filmed. With that, Jodie Whittaker has filmed her first scene.

So … how was it? It’s of course going to be almost impossible for anyone to receive more information regarding what this scene looks like, mostly because nobody wants to spoil surprise. Why would they? It’s a huge moment for the show and a chance to see the turning of the tide. You know that you’re getting her at least a moment at the end of the Christmas Special and that’s effectively all that you’re going to know.

With that said, at least Peter Capaldi is giving you a stamp of approval! Speaking per Entertainment Weekly from New York Comic-Con this weekend, the actor did his part to celebrate some of the work that Whittaker did bringing her character to life:

“I saw what she’s done and she’s great, so I think it’s in really good hands,” he said. “I’m glad people were moved by the idea of her.”

For those who do want a little more news regarding the Christmas Special itself and what’s coming up during it, Capaldi was fine giving you a few more details in regards to that subject:

My Doctor is refusing to regenerate. He’s just not having it … He’s fed up with it and he doesn’t want to turn into anyone else, whether or not that’d be someone as talented as Jodie Whittaker … I don’t want to give it away, but [the very last day on set] was quite iconic I guess. You’re doing something all the Doctors have to go through at some point.”

Capaldi, for the record, did say “never say never” when he was asked if he would return as the character in the future. It doesn’t necessarily seem like it’s something that he is planning to do, but there could be a great idea coming up down the road! One of the ways in which you can really look at this is via the following: Both Matt Smith and David Tennant have each made appearances in one form or another as The Doctor following their regeneration scene. (Smith’s cameo was audio-only, but we do feel like it was very much effective in establishing some closure from the Eleventh to the Twelfth Doctor.)

Following the Christmas Special the upcoming eleventh season of Doctor Who is going to be airing starting presumably as early as late 2018. It’s a little too early to say this will be the launch date for sure just yet, but we’re going to have more on the subject as soon as we find out.
