‘Shiptober: Will Chicago Med season bring happiness to Will and Natalie?

Will and Natalie

Mrs. Carter: Is there hope on the way for Will and Natalie on Chicago Med season 3?

We begin our discussion of #Manstead in today’s edition of our month-long ‘Shiptober series with a little bit of hope. While we do have our doubts here and there about some TV couples, this prospective pair actually seems to be on the rise. For one, entering the third season the two parties are presumably more available to each other than they’ve been. The relationship between Natalie and Jeff went south, and at the end of the second season Will and Nina split up when he realized that he had feelings elsewhere. These characters, played by Nick Gehlfuss and Torrey DeVitto, have long been a will-they-or-won’t-they couple, but it feels like the timing’s finally right both for them and for the show itself to make something happen.

For one thing, the entire One Chicago franchise doesn’t move at the same slow pace of an NCIS or some of the other crime shows that are out there. These are shows where the fan favorite couples tend to get together fairly quickly on in the run, which makes sense given that there’s still room for so much more drama after the fact. It’s not as though people get together and then everything is okay with the relationship for the remainder of the series. There are some other problems that rise to the surface and there are some interesting things to explore as a result of that.

Of course, there’s one other reason to make the pairing happen, and it’s as simple as you not knowing how long Chicago Med will be around. We’d love for there to be a few more seasons of the show but the reality is that it was a bubble show last season. If NBC does saddle it with a difficult timeslot or create some other difficult challenge for it to succeed, you don’t want to be in the unfortunate position where the show ends and you still don’t know what these characters would look like in a relationship.

Is there a case against pairing them up?

The biggest one is probably just that there are people out there who don’t like these shows to become overly romantic, and would rather see a situation where the two focused more on cases and had love interests who were a little more under the radar and would only appear occasionally. Much of this ultimately depends on what you are wanting to get out of the show.

Do you think that Will and Natalie are going to have a future on Chicago Med season 3?
