Ink Master exclusive: DJ Tambe of Old Town Ink talks winning best shop title

Old Town Ink won Ink Master season 9 and we couldn’t be happier for DJ Tambe and Bubba Irwin! They may have had a veteran on their team, but they were there pretty much since the start of the show and even though Bubba was a veteran he was still pushing himself to learn more and grow as an artist. This shop was really easy for fans to root for, not only because they are brilliant artists, and worked well together as a team, but they are so likeable and relatable to us as viewers.

We were excited to have a chance to talk to DJ about Old Town Ink’s big Ink Master win, what that means for their shop going forward and what the future holds for them. Take a look at what DJ had to say to us below.

CarterMatt: Congratulations! Has the feeling of winning sunk in for either one of you yet?

DJ Tambe: It has definitely sunk in now. It was our goal from the beginning and it feels amazing to reach such a tough goal in my life.

Bubba, we saw a lot of what you were doing during the season to study up and prepare, but how did you help DJ prepare for the show beforehand?

DJ, was there anything that surprised you about this experience while taking part in it?

DJ Tambe: Everyday was a surprise, there was so many twist and turns around every corner but I was always up for the challenges. Each returning veteran was a surprise and we never knew when it was going to end. We just knew we had to take the teams out one by one.

Did you feel confident entering the finale that the two of you were going to win?

DJ Tambe: Yes, we always tried to stay confident during the entire competition. We never wanted to be cocky and lose who we are as people, but we also knew the quality of work we were doing would get us that title.

How has being a part of the show this season changed your careers already?

DJ Tambe: It has opened more doors for business ventures in my life for sure. My clientele has also grown tremendously and now I have a lengthy waiting list.

What are the two of you hoping to do next?

DJ Tambe: We are currently searching for a building in Nashville, TN to open a tattoo shop together. We don’t have a set opening date but it’s definitely in the works. We also want to plan a nice trip with our families in the near future. Being gone so much from my wife and kids is definitely hard to do, so I want to treat them to a nice vacation.
