The Blacklist season 5 opening scene: James Spader is at it again

Want to see The Blacklist season 5 opening scene? Well, we’ve got that for you alongside another reminder that James Spader’s still doing what he does best. There are few television characters out there who can steal a car within the first two minutes of a show and taunt the police with it, while still having them root for you in the end.

Well, here we are, sharing and discussing this said opening scene with one Raymond Reddington! You’ve got it below via Entertainment Weekly, and it features Reddington playing the oldest trick in the book: Convincing a valet that he did something wrong, which leads to him pretending to be a valet and stealing some super-rich people’s car. He then goes on a little bit of a joyride, causes a police car to flip, and then goes about his day like it is no big deal at all.

The easiest way we at CarterMatt can summarize this sneak peek is rather simple: Reddington is bored. He needs something to do in order to live his best life, and clearly he is missing getting a chance to be out there working with his team. Maybe he won’t show some of this on his face, but we feel like this is there with him deep down. After all, why else would he be out there causing so much mischief instead?

This sneak peek also gives you a good sense of the current state of the Liz – Reddington relationship, one where he actually treats her as his daughter and seems to show a great deal of care for her. This discussion that the two have is indicative of the new dynamic that the show is looking to explore, one where the two are a little more of a team and they are actually enjoying having a work relationship together. This may be the most collaborative experience that we’ve seen for the two, and the idea of that feels very much exciting.

Eventually, rest assured that the show will move more into familiar territory. There are going to be more Blacklisters, just as there is going to be some sort of team that comes together at the FBI. We’re going to get a chance to explore some new dynamics, and not just with Reddington and Liz. We don’t imagine that anything will be exactly the same in the aftermath of all of the craziness that happened with Mr. Kaplan at the end of this past season.

One final thought: This The Blacklist season 5 opening scene has the perfect song choice!
