Westworld: Hiroyuki Sanada to recur during Season 2

Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada has booked his latest role on HBO’s Westworld for the second season of the hit series.

According to Deadline, Sanada will play Musashi on the multi-Emmy nominated sci-fi Western. No further details have been released yet on Sanada’s role and will remain, for now, under wraps. Given that HBO has a histroy of keeping such things under wraps, you shouldn’t be altogether surprised by this.

We certainly hope that Westworld releases a little bit more information so we can start to formulate possible storylines and how his character will play into Season 2. Will he be a friend or foe to main character Dolores? Either way it must be an important role if HBO is keeping mum on it otherwise they would have given us a little more context. As fans know, Season 1 ended with Dolores (Rachel Evan Wood) shooting and killing Ford (Anthony Hopkins) while an army of reactivated hosts emerges from a nearby forest. So it will exciting to see where the story will pick up and where Sanada’s Musashi will fit in. There are certainly rumors out there about new potential worlds that are going to be explored on the show coming up.

Sanada’s credits include 47 Ronin and The Wolverine and has a supporting role in the upcoming Marvel flick Avengers: Infinity War. In addition, he had just wrapped up a role opposite Paul Rudd called The Catcher Was A Spy.

Sanada isn’t the only new cast member joining. He joins Neil Jackson, Jonathan Tucker, Katja Herbers, Talulah Riley, and Louis Herthum.

Westworld is created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy and is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name. The series takes place in the fictional Westworld, a technologically advanced Wild West-themed amusement park populated by android hosts. Westworld caters to high-paying guests, who may indulge in whatever they wish within the park, without fear of retaliation from the hosts.

The Season 1 cast includes stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth and Clifton Collins Jr.

Westworld is produced by Kitler Films and Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros TV. Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Roberto Patino, Richard Lewis executive produce, and Eugene Kelly, Ron Fitzgerald, Frederick E.O. Toye are co-executive producers.
