We heard some time ago that there would be a new female cast member for MacGyver season 2. Now, the Isabel Lucas casting is 100% confirmed!
In a post on Instagram (see below) cast member Justin Hires shared a photo of the entire Phoenix Foundation crew, with Lucas now officially among them. She, ironically, is the second Lucas on the show following series star Lucas Till (Mac himself). There isn’t a whole lot that is known about her character just yet, but she seems more than capable of being out in the field.
As for whether or not we at CarterMatt are surprised to see Isabel Lucas coming on board, the answer there is a very-simple “no.” MacGyver was a big success for CBS last season, and as a result of that it made some sense that they would want to hire at least one more cast member to lighten the load on the rest of the performers and create a new dynamic as the show grows. These are long days, and for such an action-heavy show five main cast members is a relatively small crew. It makes sense for it to be six, and this is why another show in Hawaii Five-0 has such a large assortment of different actors on board. It makes it more of an ensemble and helps to ensure that everyone has a chance to breathe. We don’t think that this show will ever deviate all that much from Mac, but it should prove fun to get to know some other people on the team and see how they operate.
Lucas is probably best known in Australia for her role on the soap opera Home and Away, where she appeared in almost 300 episodes. Here in the United States, she is coming off of an appearance as Anna on the canceled NBC series Emerald City. She’s moving from one Friday-night show to another, and it should prove fun to see how she fits in with this cast. After all, if there is one word we would use to describe the entire MacGyver show as a whole, it’s “fun.” This is a show that loves to highlight creative action sequences and come up with stories that push their characters in new and unexpected ways. The second season will premiere later this month (on Friday, September 29), and we’ll have more news on her role as we get a little bit closer to that time.
