Could the Wynonna Earp season 3 – Lucy Lawless casting happen?

How about this for a casting dream come true? The Wynonna Earp creative team made it known a while back that they would love to get Lucy Lawless on board the show as Mama Earp. The character was teased briefly at the end of the season 2 finale, but we never got to see her face. Given that Lawless is well known for playing a badass and iconic woman in Xena: Warrior Princess, it only makes sense to covet her for this part.

Well, here’s the funny thing — there may actually be mutual interest in making the gig happen! In a new post on Twitter, Lawless confirmed that she’s got an interest in coming onto the show … at least per the way that she answered this question from an interested fan. All she wanted to know is “where” and “when.”

Obviously, getting Lawless to make appearances on Wynonna Earp season 3 would be an enormous get for Syfy and Canadian network Space. She’d bring with her a number of curious fans, and would add a little bit more spice to the show. You know that she’s capable of doing incredible action sequences while playing real, heartfelt characters.

With all of this said … there are no guarantees that she’s going to be getting this part in the end. There are scheduling and contractual issues that need to be worked through, but our thinking is this: Even if she doesn’t end up playing Mama Earp on the show, could we get a chance to see her as some other character? There has to be room for someone of Lucy’s caliber on the show somewhere. She represents what this show is all about, and brings a little bit of TV history with her, as well. Wynonna Earp season 3 is slated to start filming a little bit later this year, and is going to most likely premiere once more in the summer. We know that we at CarterMatt are very much interested in seeing the show come back on the air on a different night in Fridays, just to see if it could get some better ratings. Plus, Syfy already screwed up their entire Friday lineup by canceling Dark Matter, a decision that we are still grumpy about. (We are still glad that there is more Wynonna Earp coming up.)

Anyhow, we assume that the official casting news, one way or another, is going to be made clear over the coming weeks/months. Keep your eyes peeled here for some additional announcements!
