Outlander season 3 episode 2 preview: The path ahead and more heartbreak

Outlander season 3 episode 2

Can you move forward from the past, and become the person you ultimately want to be? Outlander season 3 episode 2 will ask this question, while also still raising some new ones for Jamie and Claire as their lives move onward. Given the amount of ground that needs to be covered leading up to Claire’s return to the past, the show does need to move rather quickly in terms of its pace. You will see that in the upcoming September 17 episode, which does bring you forward over time to a different era in their lives. Jamie will now sport a rugged beard and be a recluse from much of the outside world. Meanwhile, Claire will have Brianna, and while she and Frank may have briefly hoped that the child would bring them closer together, they will soon realize instead that this is not exactly the case. Instead, this is a source of additional tension since it marks a physical reminder of Jamie’s presence in their lives.

That moment where Bree’s red hair was questioned in the premiere? We presume that this is something that is going to come up often, and that fresh start that they will have hoped for will be soon perceived as rather unattainable.

Now that we’ve stated all of that, it feels like the right time to share a few more official details here at CarterMatt regarding what lies ahead.

Outlander season 3 episode 2 synopsis – “Hiding in an isolated cave, Jamie leads a lonely life until Lallybroch is threatened by redcoats pursuing the elusive Jacobite traitor known as “Red Jamie.” Back in Boston, Claire and Frank struggle to coexist in a marriage haunted by the ghost of Jamie’s love.”

The preview video below illuminates Jamie’s struggle even beyond this description. He looks different physically, and he reacts differently to interactions — even from familiar faces. He will face questions regarding whether or not he can move on from Claire, and he’s going to have to determine what sort of man he now wants to be without her. Eventually, fighting back against the redcoats may allow him to find more of a sense of purpose. One way or another, this story will eventually lead Jamie to that famous Print Shop and the much-awaited reunion with Claire, but how much will he still be the same person she remembers? That is one of the big questions worth wondering in the weeks to come; their hearts may be the same, but their minds will change after decades apart. They may want to rewind to the day she first passed through the stones, but that is ultimately impossible to do.

So long as the storytelling remains heartfelt and the performances of Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan spectacular, we certainly expect to be very much pleased in the end.

What do you hope to see moving into Outlander season 3 episode 2?
