The Bachelor, Peter Kraus, Good Morning America, & a new mystery

Peter Kraus

Who is going to be the next star of The Bachelor? For the past few days, it looked like the Peter Kraus rumors were in fact true. We’ve long speculated that Kraus’ casting was a sure thing for the ABC series, given that he was the most-liked contender from Rachel Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette by a mile. There were questions about if he’d be willing to commit to someone he meets on the show, but we’ve always felt like that — plus some of the other rumors out there — were a smokescreen devised by the powers-that-be to divert attention away from Peter and to give the show a little bit of drama.

Then again, we’ve all been duped before — last year, it felt like Luke Pell was more or less a sure thing before executives pulled Nick Viall out from under a hat and determined that he would be a great lead for the next season of the show. (For the record, Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi recently ended their engagement after being together since last fall.)

Here’s where things get a little bit more interesting this time around with Peter. According to Reality Steve, ABC was set to make an announcement “soon” that he would be the next star of the show. Then, Good Morning America tweeted late Thursday that the new star of the show would be announced on Friday morning. No announcement happened. Does this mean that the network changed their plans, or that the Bachelor (whether it be Peter Kraus or someone else) changed theirs? It’s possible that someone at GMA just decided to jump the gun on making the announcement.

Whenever the show is ready to make the announcement, they probably will do so on GMA. We thought for a while that they would make the announcement known during the Bachelor in Paradise reunion show, but that’s already filmed and there have been no leaks of an announcement coming out of that. Unless someone hires Chris Harrison to do a separate sit-down with the new Bachelor in the coming days, they’ll need to look elsewhere.

For the record, why can’t Jimmy Kimmel make this announcement? He has more of a good sense of humor about this show than anyone, and you might as well just throw Peter/whoever else is the new Bachelor right into the fire from the get-go.

The one thing we do think is that ABC does need to get on making a decision, given that the new season needs to start filming this month in order for it to be done before the Thanksgiving holiday. This is a show that often takes between six to eight weeks to film, if not longer with some of the travel that does go into it. There is a lot that needs to be done!
