Gotham season 4 spoilers: Meet the show’s Professor Pyg!
According to a report from TVLine, former Fringe and The Good Wife actor Michael Cerveris is going to be playing the character otherwise known as Lazlo Valentin in the comics. It’s certainly cool that Gotham continues to bring in notable comic-book characters, and this dude is by far one of the weirdest ones. We’re talking about someone who is truly deranged and disconnected from reality, and is obsessing with morphing and changing human bodies to create what he deems to be “perfection.” This includes putting doll masks on people and referring to them as “Dollotrons” in the comics. It’s weird, and in between that and the pig mask he wears, this is a character who could make people uncomfortable if it’s done in any way that is similar to what he is like in the comics. This is just someone you should prepare for in terms of being a thorn in the side of Jim Gordon and some of the other major characters on the show.
In a new statement discussing the casting, show executive producer Danny Cannon passed along the following message via the aforementioned website:
“Michael is one of my best friends … He was in my film school graduation movie, when we were both amateurs. And now he’s joining the fold as Professor Pyg.”
While there are many “new” villains appearing in Gotham season 4, Pyg may be one of the few who is completely new to the show. For example, Butch Gilzean is becoming Solomon Grundy on the show after what happened during the most-recent finale. Meanwhile, Barbara Kean is going to be slightly different in the wake of her near-death experience, and Jonathan Crane will be much more of the Scarecrow than we saw from him in the past. (If you didn’t see the first details from the premiere as released by Fox, be sure to head over to the link here.) Also, be prepared to see more of Ra’s al Ghul after he made a brief appearance at the end of season 3 — there are certainly many plans for this guy to be a major player in everything coming up.
Gordon will have some familiar faces around to help him with what he’s up against, but there’s also going to be one other ally on his side who is very much new: Bruce Wayne. While he’s always been around, this is the first time on the show that we’re going to see at length the character take part in a little bit of vigilante justice. He won’t be Batman just yet, but he is getting ever closer to that famous cowl and cape.
