The Walking Dead season 8 will have Talking Dead preseason special
Today, AMC and Talking Dead itself confirmed that on Sunday, September 10 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern (prior to the return of Fear the Walking Dead season 3), there will be a season 8 preview special featuring none other than Lennie James, showrunner Scott M. Gimple, and series star Jeffrey Dean Morgan. This will be an opportunity to get a few more teases regarding when it coming up on the show, and also to see potentially some new footage.
While there is nothing confirmed as of yet insofar as a new trailer for The Walking Dead season 8, consider this: Is the show really going to go so far as to create a whole special around the premiere episode and not give you any new footage?
The purpose of this special appears to be twofold: Generating excitement surrounding the upcoming season of the AMC show, while at the same time also doing a good job giving the network a viewer bump before the return of Fear the Walking Dead. It does make a degree of sense to do this when you consider that we are easily coming off of our best batch of episodes for Fear the Walking Dead since the show began. There is an additional incentive to promote this beyond even what there would be normally.
As for what is coming on The Walking Dead season 8, that can be best described using three simple words: All Out War. You will see Negan’s team on one side and then Rick’s team on the other. There’s a reason why the key art above is designed the way that it is. You’re going to have one of the most violent seasons to date, largely because there is no re-positioning the metaphorical deck chairs. Everyone is going to be on edge, and we’re very much curious to see how this story is going to be ramping up the tension after a finale that lost the show a key character in Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green).
Remember, The Walking Dead season 8 itself is going to be promoted on AMC on Sunday, October 22 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, and it will be followed once more by new episodes of Talking Dead. This is a show that has an airing pattern than clearly works for it, and there is no reason for it to shake things up now. Why would it, given what it does right now generates strong ratings?

Also, if you missed it we published earlier this summer a full breakdown of the season 8 trailer at the link here. This should give you an opportunity to see more of Old Man Rick — a version of the character that does make us think that a pretty substantial time jump is coming, and sooner rather than later.
