The Fosters season 5 episode 7 spoilers: Stef learns about Jesus, Emma

Fosters season 5 episode 7

The Fosters season 5 episode 7 airs on Freeform Tuesday night, and Stef is going to find herself in a familiar position: Last to know. Even though she’s one of the matriarchs at the head of her family, somehow there will continue to be some people who manage to find out about things going on with her family before she does.

For the latest example of that, you’ve got the sneak preview below! In this, she learns via Gabe a little more about Jesus and the level of commitment that he is already showing to Emma. At the end of this past episode, he presented her with a wooden ring in hopes of convincing her to embark on more of a long-term relationship with him. This was a super-sweet moment, but also one that didn’t actually end in an engagement. Instead, she encouraged him to finish getting his education and that was all of the motivation that she needed. She did the right thing for him, and may not have even realized the gravity of it in that moment.

So why didn’t Jesus tell Stef about the ring? The easy answer is that she may have tried to convince him out of doing it. Because of what he’s been going through, it makes some sense that he would be feeling at a loss of some control. He wants, therefore, some ways to get a little bit of the power back. He’ll think in turn that one of the ways to do that is by trying to forge his own romantic future without any sort of outside interference. In some ways, you can understand where he’s coming from since anyone obvious wants to feel like they have some control over their lives. However, what’s so different here is that he is a spot where he is still vulnerable and needs help. That may not be a situation he fully finds himself in here, but it’s something that he may need down the road. Stef and Lena are there for him, and he needs to be okay with that and allow them to be.

Also, we do think that they would want him to be happy. Maybe they would have some hesitation about him wanting to give Emma some sort of ring at this point in their relationship, but they do want him to be happy. They’re not altogether interested in him feeling devastated and devoid of any sort of happiness and joy. They just want him to be patient and know that this will get better in time — even if it’s hard for him to feel this way in these sort of moments.
