Hawaii Five-0 season 8: Could there be a McGarrett – Alicia Brown romance?

McGarrett - Alicia Brown romance

Mrs. Carter: Is there a McGarrett – Alicia Brown romance blooming on Hawaii Five-0 season 8?

If you watched the show last season, you are probably very much aware that there was a connection between the two characters — they went through a good bit together, and we’ve certainly seen the two characters go through a lot separately at the same time. They’re almost kindred spirits in that way, and they have jobs that put them in tough situations where they have to battle against all sorts of adversaries.

Suffice it to say, there is a lot of groundwork in place here that could make them a good couple. The only thing that is missing right now is something to push them in that direction.

While there is nothing confirmed on the subject of a McGarrett – Alicia romance beyond Claire Forlani returning for at least one more episode as the character, show executive producer Peter M. Lenkov did confirm recently to Entertainment Weekly that it is something they are considering:

“There is definitely chemistry between them and the idea of leaning in that direction is very intriguing to us, so we’re thinking about it.”

Consider this on the table, even though Steve’s romantic life is already rather complicated and he’s been with Lynn as of late. The truth is that there is a lot of time for relationships to ebb and flow on this show, given that we often don’t see that much in terms of the personal lives for some of these characters. For example, maybe Danny’s daughter shows up for a few episodes here and there, much in the way that Grover’s son does. There is some flexibility when it comes to how often the producers want to dive into these sort of stories.

What else could be coming for McGarrett?

We presume quite a bit, given that he could still be reeling from the radiation poisoning reveal at the end of this past season. There may not be any plans at the moment to kill off Alex O’Loughlin’s character, but there is still plenty of potential for him to be in the middle of some highly dramatic moments regarding this reveal. He’s also going to have to cope with the loss of both Kono (Grace Park) and Chin (Daniel Dae Kim), and that’s not going to prove easy even if there are some new additions coming on board to go along with more of some established familiar faces.

All in all, we just want to see more of McGarrett doing what he does best — taking down some bad guys while bickering with Danny every step of the way. It’s a hallmark of the series at this point.
