How The Night Shift season 4, Zoo season 3 fared after NFL adjustments
This week, the NBC show drew a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is up a tick from what the show drew the week beforehand. Remember that this is the second straight week in which the show was preempted as a direct result of NFL coverage. There was a time in which the show was immune from some of these preemptions in select markets, but that was a couple of weeks ago now. This isn’t something that the show has to deal with nearly as much in the third season of the show, when it had a different lead-in and aired on a different night.
Ultimately, for the time being we do think that the odds are still decent that the show gets renewed for a fifth season. Just remember that there aren’t all that many other shows on network TV this summer — especially when it comes to scripted dramas — that are drawing these sort of numbers. We think the show’s return will be dictated on a couple of different things: The pitch that’s made for season 5 coupled with the ratings for the final episodes. We do know that the DVR ratings are there, and are only going to rise more because of the preemptions the last couple of weeks.
As we’ve said in the past, we do anticipate that we’ll learn of the show’s fate one way or another by the time the end of the fall rolls around.
How is Zoo season 3 faring?
Well, the ratings are about even with where they have been as of late — think in terms of yet another 0.6 rating. This is a show that is a total enigma given the way in which CBS monetizes it through Netflix. Personally, we’d keep it for another go, but the ratings have not been anywhere near as strong as they’ve been for The Night Shift the majority of the season.
