Stephen Colbert, Anthony Scaramucci talk Steve Bannon & more (video)
Tonight, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is welcoming Anthony Scaramucci, and we still have no idea why this happened. Why is The Mooch doing this show? From our vantage point of wanting entertainment, we’re more than fine with this, but this is also the same late-night talk show that Donald Trump has bashed since becoming President over some of the comments that Stephen made. It’s a weird venue.
With that, it’s probably going to be a weird interview just because the personal that we’ve all built up in our head of The Mooch is probably more ridiculous than the guy really is — he’s not particularly funny, he still supports the President, and if you’re watching this video hoping to get something shocking or dramatic, you’re going to be disappointed.
The only thing that’s really surprising is that he repeated stuff that he’s already said in the now-infamous report, including who he thinks are some of the responsible parties in some of the leaks that have taken place. This is all old news at this point, but some will appreciate it — just as much as some out there will appreciate the fact that Scaramucci would have fired Steve Bannon already in the event that he had an opportunity to do so.
Yes, this is what it’s come to in today’s political climate — watching videos featuring a Communications Director fired after less than two weeks on the job, one where he still sides with the President but skewers some of his advisers. In the land of little victories, this is the littlest of all.
Interesting timing
This interview with Scaramucci is happening at the same time as there are protests that are taking place in New York City revolving around Trump’s arrival there. he will spend some of his first time at his residence there since becoming President, which is almost certainly going to be a security nightmare given all of the people that are in the city. He’ll eventually return to the White House, and the majority of the late-night talk shows will continue some of their blistering attacks.
Remember here that this is the first time since the horrific events in Charlottesville that Colbert and the other late-night comedians have had a chance to discuss some of what happened and the terrible response by the Administration to it. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was the only one to do so over the weekend, and he delivered what was, as expected, a smart and blistering attack.
