Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin to star in Netflix series The Kominsky Method
According to Deadline, the series is set to be a single camera comedy and will be written by Lorre.
The show will focus on Sandy Kominsky (Douglas), “an actor who years ago had a brief fling with success and is now a revered Hollywood acting coach. Arkin plays his long-suffering agent and friend, Norman.”
With Douglas and Arkin signed on for the project, it’s certainly looking to be a great series. Arkin and Douglas have both had previous success in humorous roles. This pairing sounds like Lorre could have a new hit on his hands.
One things for certain, it will be interesting to see the interactions between Douglas and Arkin and what trouble their characters could get into. Knowing Lorre, fans will definitely be in for many laughs, and based on the show summary, the writers have a lot of creative outlets that they could take in order to tell the story.
The Kominsky Method will be the counterpart to Netflix’s Grace and Frankie starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, respectively. Due to the success of Grace and Frankie, it seems like Netflix is hoping Lorre’s newest series will be just as successful.
Despite a younger demographic not being the target audience like many shows on right now, the benefit of making a deal with Netflix is that it is subscription-based which targets viewers of all demographics. In other words, having The Kominsky Method on Netflix and not CBS, for instance, is that they won’t have to worry about how other shows are doing in a particular time slot, because subscribers are free to watch the series at their convenience.
For Lorre, The Kominsky Method is the second Netflix series. His other show, the Kathy Bates lead comedy, Disjointed, will premiere on the streaming service on August 25. Lorre is also the creator of the biggest comedy on television, The Big Bang Theory, as well as the hit series Mom, and the new CBS show, Young Sheldon.
The Kominsky Method marks Douglas’s first major television series role since his role in The Streets of San Francisco as well as for Arkin since his role in A&E’s 100 Centre Street.
