Better Call Saul season 4 and hopes for more Gene
At a recent For Your Consideration event for the show, executive producer Peter Gould was quick to admit that he knows the demand for more Gene is out there. Check out his response, via Deadline, below:
“I’m fascinated by the Gene element. [The show] is a prequel, and the Gene part of the story is a sequel. Doing this show is like a Rubik’s cube. We know certain events about these characters; they were deemed to meet for the first time on Breaking Bad … Gene fascinates me because he’s a survivor. There’s a cowardly aspect, but this guy told the kid, ‘Get a lawyer!’ You realize then that this guy has gone through all these identities. They’re separate people that Bob is playing, but they’re like Russian nesting dolls and Gene is the biggest of them.”
At the end of this past season, we saw Jimmy get closer to becoming the Saul Goodman that we know from Breaking Bad. Yet, he’s not fully there yet, and Kim Wexler, (one of the few people within his life that really loves him) is also still around. Sooner or later, you have to assume that she leaves and Slippin’ Jimmy will slide further into darkness. We just haven’t arrived at that point yet, though we do very much think it’s coming. We can imagine that season 4 completes his journey into becoming Saul, and paving the way to a season 5 that’s either about Gene or tying up some of the loose ends that happened during the Breaking Bad era. Maybe we get to see what was happening with Saul while he was helping Walt and Jesse … but we prefer to see him in the future as Gene, and get more updates as told through that medium.
What’s your take on Gene’s future?
Do you want to see more of him, or do you consider this so much a prequel that the remainder of his story is unnecessary? Share now in the comments section below and tell us your thoughts on the upcoming story!

“Yet, he’s not fully there yet, and Kim Wexler, one of the few people within his life that really loves him for him, is also still around” should be “He’s not there yet. Kim Wexler, one of the few people who loves him, is still in his life.” COME ON, PEOPLE. THIS STUFF IS BARELY LITERATE.

I’m guessing the person who wrote this is not a native speaker of English. The flawed syntax is irritating to read. “That’s the only change that we have to see the metaphorical gold at the end of the rainbow” makes absolutely no sense. Also, “It’s very different than anything else as presented…” should be “It’s different from anything else presented…” Also, the scene where Gene talks to the shoplifting kid is in Season 3. Season 4 hasn’t been produced or released yet.
