The Originals season 5 Hope spin-off still in early stages at The CW

Hope spin-off

There’s been talk of an Originals season 5 Hope spin-off for weeks now, and with this being confirmed as the final season, there’s even more pressure. If this show does not get a green light, it means that for the first time in almost a decade, there won’t be a CW vampire drama from Julie Plec in the 2018-19 season. That’s not an easy idea to digest.

Unfortunately, at the moment the talk about the spin-off is mostly just that: Talk. Things are still in the super-early stage, and it’s far too early to hand down anything definitive in terms of what could happen or what should happen. Much of it depends on the story for this character and if there is enough about her worthy of exploring further. Given that she spent much of her childhood separate from New Orleans at the supernatural school founded by Alaric and Caroline, we know that a spin-off about her wouldn’t necessarily have to include many other familiar faces from the franchise.

With that said, we revolt if Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin fail to pop by for at least one episode. Why not get them back around for a while?

While speaking about the idea of the Hope spin-off while at TCA earlier, CW programming head Mark Pedowitz handed down the following message (via Deadline):

“There’s been many discussions about the character Hope. I’m very interested if she wishes to do it in the The Vampire Diaries universe.

“Nothing has come out of it yet. Julie really wants to get the final season of The Originals done.”

One of the larger questions that we’re pondering over now is if it is really all that possible that The CW greenlights both this spin-off and also Wayward Sisters, a planted spin-off for Supernaturalin the new season. That’s a lot of shows, even if you would be replacing The Originals with this new one.

New episodes of the series begin in the new year, and it may be around that point where we start to get further buzz regarding the spin-off. The CW and the producers do still need to figure out whether or not the character is all that well-received before they figure out if she is worthy of starring in her own spin-off. We’re going to get a lot of her during season 5, so that should offer up a possibility to learn a great deal more about the character separate from who her parents are.

Is this the part of the article where we remind you of how awesome Summer Fontana was as a younger version of Hope? Well, here it is: Fontana was awesome.
