HBO notes: Big Little Lies season 2, Jon Stewart, & Deadwood revival
Big Little Lies season 2 news – We should note for the time being that the show is not officially renewed; it may never be. However, the network is looking at reasons to bring it back, even in spite of some comments from director Jean-Marc Vallée that there was no reason to do so after the way that the first season ended.
Today, network programming head Casey Bloys made it clear (via TVLine) that he was in talks with the show’s cast about coming back, but everything really depends on author Liane Moriarty’s material and if everyone can find a way to get back together:
“I know [Jean-Marc] said that… but Nicole [Kidman and Reese Witherspoon] can be very persuasive. First we have to see the material and see if it’s worth everyone’s time. And if it is, [we’ll have a] conversation about directors.”
Two Jon Stewart specials coming – We knew that he was forming a relationship with the network, and it’s going to spawn some fruit in the form of a comedy special entitled Jon Stewart: Unleavened alongside the Night of Too Many Stars event, one that he has done for many years for raise money for autism awareness. For those who have missed Stewart on the air (which should be all of us), this is great news.
Fun fact: Stewart has not done a comedy special in a whopping 20 years. There’s a comeback, and then there is this an extreme comeback. Here’s to hoping that his biting sense of humor is still there like it was on The Daily Show — and we’re confident that it will be, based on some of his other late-night appearances.
The Deadwood movie is closer to happening – HBO is pushing onward with a revival of the formerly-canceled series. Bloys said that writer David Milch has turned in a great script that will appeal both to longtime fans of the property and people who are new to the franchise.
Now, there’s the other problem: Trying to find a way to get everyone together when they are all working on a wide array of other projects. These people are all extremely talented actors, and as a result of that it’s going to be hard to get the schedules to work out.
So, for now, we’re hopeful. However, we’re not 100% confident. After everything that we’ve been through with this franchise, we’d be stupid to think anything was guaranteed.
