Once Upon a Time adds new LGBT character for season 7

LGBT character

Once Upon a Time creators revealed at Comic Con that the ABC fairytale drama’s upcoming will feature a LGBT character.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the bosses, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, will have the LGBT character be a prominent figure this season, and they wanted fans to know that there won’t be a repeat of what happened in Season 5.

If fans will recall in Season 5 Meghan Ory’s Ruby and Teri Reeves’s Dorothy were the much-hyped LGBT couple; however, the pairing wasn’t that well received because neither of them was a main character and their storyline wrapped up quickly. Here is what Kitsis had to say on the new addition:

“One of the show’s franchises is love. This iteration is reflecting the world today. It will not be anything more than just one of other love stories that are happening. I don’t think it’s an arc, it’ll be a character who is gay and that’s who they are and they exist in the world. They don’t have a sign that says ‘special episode’.”

However, the OUAT bosses are keeping it a secret on who the character will be.

In the meantime, the series has added a bunch of new cast members as the show heads into a creative reboot. Six original cast members have exited, leaving only Lana Parrilla’s Regina and Robert Carlyle’s Rumple as the only original cast members returning. Colin O’Donoghue’s Hook, who joined during season 2, is also set to return.

Part of the creative reboot is the show will pivot to feature an adult Henry Mills. The new additions include Andrew J. West as the adult Henry, Alison Fernandez as Henry’s daughter Lucy, Dania Ramirez as Henry’s wife (a new Cinderella), Gabrielle Anwar as Cinderella’s evil stepmother Lady Tremanie, Adelaide Kane as Cinderella’s stepsister Drizella, Mekia Cox as Tiana, and Rose Reynolds as the new Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

The reboot of the popular ABC series was met with mixed fan reactions. Many fans on social media were deeply upset with the departure of cast members Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Emilie de Ravin, along with Jennifer Morrison. Given that, it will be interesting to see if these fans will return in the fall to watch the series which will now air on Friday nights.

There are also a group of fans who remain hopeful about the change for the upcoming season. These fans believe that the show could benefit from the changes and hopefully bring the ratings back in the right direction. Just think back to the strength of the series when it first premiered back in 2011.

Once Upon a Time will return this fall on ABC on Friday October 6, 2017 at 8:00 pm ET/7:00 pm CT.
