Grey’s Anatomy season 14: First table read for Ellen Pompeo, cast!

Ellen Pompeo

For everyone out there eager for Grey’s Anatomy season 14, know this: Ellen Pompeo and the cast have done their first table read!

In a post on Twitter, the official Shondaland Twitter account confirmed that the cast got together to start the process for the first episode back earlier today. That is an episode that clearly is going to have its work cut out for it in terms of delivering content.

Let’s go for a quick refresher of where things are going to be picking up. In the closing seconds of the finale we learned that Owen was about to see his sister Megan for the first time since she was proposed dead; with that said, it hasn’t been 100% confirmed at the moment that Bridget Regan will be stopping by in that role; we do know that she is very much busy thanks to The Last Ship this season, which is being filmed immediately after production wrapped on season 4.

Beyond all of that, Stephanie has departed the hospital, Meredith’s future with Riggs seems dim with Megan back, and there are certainly many questions to come for characters like Jackson, Maggie, and April. We’ve also got questions as to the future of Alex and Jo, given that they are both romantically unattached. Yet, they’ve also went through so much over the course of their time together that there is no guarantee that they are ever going to have a successful relationship again.

What else do we want to see?

The biggest thing that we enjoyed about season 13 was the effort to create some strong, fascinating, and intimate episodes featuring just a handful of characters. This is probably by one token a good way to keep the show’s budget down, given that you don’t have to contract every person in the cast for multiple years of the show. However, at the same time, there’s another advantage to it in that you give your actors some great material to shine with. Jesse Williams, Pompeo, and Martin Henderson are among some of the performers who got to do some great, exciting stuff in this format. It’s always been a component of the show, but we’d love even more of it starting this fall.

Oh, and we’re sure that there will be some fantastic guest stars, given that this is the most-watched and top-rated drama for ABC, there is a clear motive for people to want to be a part of it.
