Raven’s Home episode 2 spoilers: Devon Carter returns!

Raven's Home episode 2

If you enjoy the premiere episode tonight, know this: Raven’s Home episode 2 could bring plenty of entertainment of its own! This episode is airing on the Disney Channel next week, and it marks the first appearance of a very popular That’s So Raven character in Devon Carter. Jonathan McDaniel is credited for almost a dozen appearances on the original show, and his role in this episode is going to be very significant, to put it mildly.

Below, you can see some of the first episode 2 details, including how Devon is going to get involved in the story about an apartment.

Raven’s Home episode 2 synopsis – “Unbeknownst to Raven, Nia is starting to feel like their apartment isn’t big enough for everyone and turns to her dad Devon for help.”

Here’s a little bit of a behind-the-scenes fun fact for this episode — it wasn’t actually the second episode of Raven’s Home that was filmed. The only reason that it’s the second one airing is because clearly, the network feels like there is a lot of juice that can be taken from the return of Devon, a character who many people already know and are familiar with from the original show. Over time, they may be able to stand more on their own two feet, but for the time being, Raven’s Home does need to rely to a certain degree on nostalgia to get new fans in the door.

The strategy here has to be somewhat similar to another recent series in Girl Meets World, where you hoped that parents would want to watch the show with their children. That show did a lot of things right, but was challenged in that the original show aired on ABC and this one was limited in what it could do. For Raven’s Home, that is less of a concern given that the original That’s So Raven also aired on the Disney Channel. There is no significant tonal shift here to appeal the show to this demographic. It’s the same show, and the same crowd, that it’s always been.

Interestingly, airing episodes out of order is another trend that we saw Girl Meets World utilize often, though often on frustrating levels given that we’d see events on the show (especially in terms of Riley, Maya, and Lucas) that were then ignored for many weeks after the fact and it was irritating. Why tease fans only to pull the rug out from under them?

We’re excited to cover more how Raven’s Home does in the ratings, mostly because it is such an enigma given where it comes from and the nostalgia factor. It’s a better fit for the Disney Channel than Girl Meets World, but the original show also had a smaller total audience. This could ultimately go either way.

After you watch tonight’s Raven’s Home, let us know in the comments if you’re even interested in checking out a second season! We’ll be back to offer up some further insight on the series in due time. (Photo: Disney Channel.)
